Background

Katherine Cowtan MA (RCA)

 

1962                  Born Katherine Benthall. 

 

1981 – 1982    Art Foundation Course at Oxford Polytechnic

 

1982 – 1985    BA (1st Class Hons) in Textile Design, specialising in Woven Textile Design at West Surrey College of Art and Design, Farnham, Surrey.

 

1985 – 1987    MA in Woven Textile design at the Royal College of Art, London

 

1988 –  2003   Worked as a freelance woven textile designer, producing innovative silk furnishing fabrics at Whitchurch Silk Mill, and then spent 10 years designing numerous bespoke fashion fabrics and scarves for the International fashion deesigner 'eskandar', for whom she commissioned small scale batch production runs.

 

2003                 Moved to Scotland with her family.

 

Before taking up painting seriously, she set up a bespoke cake baking business (www.themillhousehomebaking.co.uk), and still works at this part time.

 

She currently lives in rural Stirlingshire.
